S009 KIGUMI HANGING STAPLE

  • Kigumi Hanging Staple is a tower lamp built around the logic of Japanese interlocking joinery (kigumi): the case slots together without adhesive or hardware, and a single neon element hangs freely within the structure.

Formally, the work references Shiro Kuramata’s late-1970s/80s material language—clear volumes, reflective planes, and a kind of poetic engineering—while also carrying the quiet presence of Isamu Noguchi’s Akari, where light operates as sculpture and atmosphere.

Three vertical panels are ⅛-inch clear Italian acrylic, paired with a fourth in chrome, which introduces a mirror-plane that shifts the tube’s read as you move around it. The chrome surface can be positioned to conceal or reveal the presence of the tube in a space.

The tube is clear borosilicate glass pumped with neon, finished with transparent European electrode covers and cords to maintain an intentionally translucent, weightless feel.

Dimmable and suitable for floor or tabletop display, the lamp casts an even, architectural light through the clear volume and chrome reflection.
